The Story

From the show’s introduction:

This is the story of a wealthy family who lost everything, and the one son who had no choice but to keep them all together. This is Arrested Development.

After George Bluth, Sr. (Jeffrey Tambor), is arrested for embezzelling funds from the Bluth Development Company, the Bluth family is forced to give up their pampered lifestyle. Michael (Jason Bateman), the responsible one, tries to keep his son George Michael (Michael Cera) from being corrupted by his acerbic mother Lucille (Jessica Walter), his older magician brother G.O.B. (Will Arnett), his twin sister Lindsay (Portia de Rossi), his psychologist-turned-actor brother-in-law Tobias (David Cross), and his niece Maeby (Alia Shawcat). Younger brother and mama’s boy, Buster (Tony Hale), also enters the mix. Arrested Development follows the delusional antics of this spoiled family in a mockumentary style.

The Critics

... the smart, sublimely nutso “Arrested Development.”

... the best new series on TV ...

... pants-wettingly funny. There hasn’t been a network show this funny since Andy Richter Controls the Universe.

... so fresh and smart and bubbling with larcenous wit that you’re stunned to even find it on broadcast television.

Arrested Development also happens to be a fantastic show, a shriekingly funny family comedy that turns the tale of one rich, dysfunctional clan into a bracingly observed critique of domestic and cultural manners.

Oh, c’mon now, people! ’Arrested Development’ is the BEST comedy-soap opera since ’Soap’ itself! I (((always))) said the concept of ’Soap’ could be done again and successfully if it has the right original concept, cast and of course, writing. Well, Fox has delivered ALL this with A.D. The critics completely back this show 100%. So WHY isn’t it a top 30 show???!!! I know, I know— you pretty much have to get in on the ground floor, it being a on-going storyline show... but THAT’S what DVD is for! Having such an ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT show like this cancelled would be like saying, "oh, let’s cancel ’Seinfeld’ or ’Friends’ because it didn’t catch on during IT’S first year!". I admit, when I was thinking of "the next ’Soap’-like hit", I was thinking it would be more like the typical soundstage/studio-audience/3 camera sitcom that has been the staple of network primetime, but ’Malcolm In The Middle’ broke down that 4th wall successfully, and I couldn’t imagine ’Arrested Development’ being anything BUT the way it’s made today!

Arrested Development is without a doubt the FUNNIEST show on television. The most entertaining bunch of characters to ever come together. Jason Bateman is awesome!!!!

This show is great for serialization. If you miss one episode, or 13 or 14 like I have, you can jump right back in, and the show still makes sense. While somethings won’t, most things do, since they deal with the episode itself.
